Joint CSST-Sherbrooke Regional Health Board Intervention to Reduce Musculoskeletal Injuries in a Rubber Sector Plant
Researcher: Marie Bellemare (U. Laval)
The CSST has undertaken pilot projects in various regions of Quebec aimed at helping workplaces manage the prevention of repetitive strain injuries (RSI). This project was conducted in a plant specialized in rubber extrusion trimming. A participatory ergonomic approach based on the studies of a bipartite group led by IRSST ergonomists was implemented in the plant with the CSST's collaboration. This involved developing a record of early signs of RSI, targeting the most hazardous work situations, identifying risk factors and related determinants and making changes to work situations. This intervention resulted in a reduction of RSI risks within the plant as well as the integration of prevention into the organizational culture.
