The first phase of this project characterized the relationship between occupational qualification and the nature of accidents among carpenters-joiners and electricians in two regions, taking into account occupational history, status, task, tools, materials and selected characteristics of the construction sites and industrial sub-sectors in question. The second phase of this project examined the relationship between occupational qualification and accident frequency. The results indicate that occupational qualification is a complex phenomenon that indeed influences accident causation, and that its analysis requires an understanding of the context in which work is performed. These results will contribute to the development of more effective training, apprenticeship and prevention programs.
